SANDY CHENG
Programs and Communications Associate
Sandy Cheng is a Taiwanese-born, Washington, DC-based curator, art nonprofit professional, and arts administrator. Her diverse cultural background has inspired her to explore and address the inherent disparities among individuals. Sandy has a particular interest in the experiences of third culture kids—a term coined by sociologist Dr. Ruth Hill Useem in the 1950s to describe individuals who have spent a significant part of their childhood living outside their passport countries, navigating the spaces between their parents' cultures and the broader world. This exploration has fueled her fascination with how artists integrate global cultural influences into their work.
Sandy has curated numerous exhibitions, including Restorative Gestures (2024, Reston, VA), Metopic Ridge (Reston, VA), frequent goodbyes (2023, Washington, DC), Bless This Mess (2022, Baltimore, MD), feels familiar (2022, Baltimore, MD), and The Phenomenon (2021, Kaohsiung–Taipei–Tainan, Taiwan). She earned her BFA in Visual Arts and Design from the National University of Tainan and an MFA in Curatorial Practice from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Currently, Sandy serves as the Operations and Exhibition Coordinator at Hamiltonian Artists and Programs and Communications Associate at The Nicholson Project. Previously, she worked as the Interim Exhibition and Programming Associate at the George Washington University Corcoran School of the Arts and Design, and 2023 ArtTable Fellow at the Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art (Reston, VA).
