Nicholson is home to large-scale installations and several photos by DC artists. We’ll continue growing our collection as we grow. If you have questions about starting your own collection, it’s easier than you think. Let’s talk.

Take a stand. (2019) By Jefferson Pinder

Mercury Neon

Mayor for Life, Marion Barry is known for many colorful quotes. His turbulent polarizing personality has been in the collective DMV consciousness. In his early years Barry’s simple campaign slogan, “Take a Stand” was deliberate and memorable. Harkening to optimistic nostalgia of DC’s past, this statement carries an array of significance today. Pinder’s neon work is a clear nod to the past and a reminder that in a changing DC, there is still so much left to stand up for.

In entry, the entry hallway at the Nicholson Project is marked by a banister that takes a wild turn at the first floor ceiling and contorts into a sculptural knot, before it continues on its way to the second floor. When standing below the sculptural knot, visitors discover that a sound experience is hidden within the architecture.
