DIGITAL RESIDENT
Kelli Anderson
DECEMBER 2026
Kelli Anderson is an interdisciplinary artist and storyteller based in Washington, DC, whose work explores memory, imagination, and everyday Black life through miniature dioramas and photography. Working under the name A Black Toy Adventure, Kelli creates richly detailed 1:6 scale scenes using handcrafted furniture, custom-sewn doll clothing made from upcycled personal garments, and repurposed materials that honor the visual language of Black culture, memory, and futurism.
Play is central to Kelli’s process—it is a tool for joy, reflection, and discovery. Her work merges historical research, personal narrative, and improvisation to reimagine storytelling traditions. Using photography, short video, and stop-motion animation, Kelli animates miniature worlds that engage audiences of all ages, transforming toys into instruments of truth-telling, education, and cultural celebration.
Kelli holds a B.A. in Film and Television Production from Howard University and an M.S. in Internet Marketing from Full Sail University. For over twenty years, she has worked across education, media, and the arts—as a digital content creator, new media instructor, and community arts organizer. She created and manages the Instagram account @blacktoyadvntr as a place to share the ongoing project and connect with others through visual storytelling that centers Black joy, culture, and connection.
Through A Black Toy Adventure, Kelli invites viewers to see the magic in the miniature and the power of representation in play—offering new ways to remember the past, imagine the future, and honor the stories in between.
