Karoline Xu
ARtist-in-residence / JANUARY 7 – MARCH 17, 2026
Karoline is a queer, Chinese American actor and maker who goes by a mononym. They are best known for their screen work, including Hulu's DEATH AND OTHER DETAILS and A24’s A DIFFERENT MAN. Theater credits include THE HARD PROBLEM at Lincoln Center, EXCLUSION at Arena Stage, and the world premiere of [VEIL WIDOW CONSPIRACY], for which The New York Times called them “terrific.” Their writing is at once intellectual and visceral. Their films are conversations, exploring ambiguity, common queerness, and difficult questions. Their short films - PIPPI and HOW DO WE LEAVE - traveled the festival circuit to acclaim and are both in development as features. At Nicholson, they hope to expand their art making, experimenting with a third feature that considers the shifting connection between love and pain.
